TOURISM GUIDES HOSTELERS ON NEW LAW OF INCENTIVE PLAN FOR PAYMENT OF TAXES ON ROOM OCCUPANCY FEE

San Juan, PR – The Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (CTPR), Carla Campos Vidal, urged hoteliers today to take advantage of the benefits provided by Law No. 137-2018, signed by Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares on July 10. The measure “Get Up to Date on Room Occupancy Tax Payments” aims to offer a mechanism to encourage hoteliers to pay their debts for room occupancy tax to the CTPR, providing options for discounts and payment plans.

Any hotelier, or any person duly authorized to act on their behalf, who reflects a debt of taxes on room occupancy tax, as established in Article 24 of Law 272-2003, “Law on the Room Occupancy Tax of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico,” as amended, may take advantage of the Incentive Plan.

The validity of the Plan for the payment of the room occupancy tax lasts one hundred eighty (180) days from July 10, 2018. This Plan offers two alternatives: (1) the total payment of the principal owed with a total discount on interest, surcharges, and penalties; or (2) a payment plan with a seventy-five percent (75%) discount on interest, surcharges, and penalties. The plan will only apply to debts incurred prior to the validity of this Law.

“This Law is an excellent tool to facilitate hoteliers to get up to date on the payment of the room occupancy tax that they must remit to the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. In these moments of recovery, we provide the opportunity to hoteliers who have fallen behind in their payments. We are confident that this action will promote compliance among hoteliers, through a quick and simple process, in addition to contributing to the fiscal health of the Company and, consequently, to that of the agencies that benefit from these funds,” expressed the Executive Director of the CTPR, Carla Campos Vidal.

The CTPR Room Tax Division (Room Tax), through its officials, will be channeling requests from those hoteliers who wish to take advantage of any of the options offered by the Plan. To obtain the Plan application, they can access the following electronic address: https://roomtax.prtourism.com. Additionally, they can write to the email roomtaxpr@tourism.pr.gov and indicate in the subject line: INCENTIVE PLAN – Hotelier Number (INCENTIVE PLAN – XX-XX-XX-XXXX) so that the staff of the Room Tax area of the CTPR can provide them with the application via email.

Similarly, anyone who wishes may visit the central offices of the Room Tax area of the CTPR, located on the third floor of the Ochoa Building, Calle de la Tanca #500 in Old San Juan. They also have the option to visit the Regional offices of the CTPR located in Ponce, Cabo Rojo, and at the Aguadilla Airport.
